This movie shows the infamous British graffiti artist Banksy. He has traveled leaving his mysterious mark all around the world. Thierry Guetta, a Frenchman who lives in Los Angeles, California gets a chance to film Banksy’s adventures. With the start of the documentary, the film shows the mass amount of people writing graffiti in various cities and also getting chased by police. The public’s opinion towards graffiti art is that it is destruction and vandalism. Next, the documentary starts to show the life of a man by the name Thierry Guetta who owns a clothing warehouse.He would sell used clothes as designer clothes to make large profits. What makes him special, however, is his constant filming of his everyday life. He begins by filming his family and random encounters with celebrities. Guetta’s life begins to change when he decides to go on a vacation with his family to France. In France, Guetta’s cousin was working on an art project using the game of Pacman as his artistic work. During this time, street art was beginning to emerge as the new thing in France attracting all types of people. The documentary then goes on to show Guetta following his cousin around at night when he is working on various pieces. As Thierry films, his cousin starts to work with other artists in LA. This is when Thierry meets Fairey who is known for his poster of Obama that was mass produced. This however not being his most famous work, which is the picture of Andre the Giant with the word Obey underneath in the color red. Fairey was known for his repetitive style and would constantly print out the same picture in different sizes to display around the city. His constant use of the same images stuck with the public around LA which put Fairey’s name at the top. As Fairey’s name was going viral and Thierry’s cousin moved back to France, Thierry knew he needed to film Fairey’s work to keep his street art documentary alive. They explore all over the world capturing every moment of action. Being a thrill seeker, Guetta has encountered police where ever they went. No obstacle would keep him from capturing the moment. As they traveled, Guetta meets loads of new artists and films their styles and techniques. When Banksy gets national news for sneaking one of his works into an art gallery in Britain, Guetta hears about it and starts to become intrigued of his work. During this experience Guetta sees an opportunity he can’t let slip his fingers. Banksy who is a British graffiti artist is known for displaying controversial pieces with a sort of mysterious persona. Guetta knew he needed Banksy as the spotlight for his documentary. At first, it seemed to be impossible to catch this artist who had a reputation for elusiveness.Even though Banksy had work all over, the public was in the dark about who exactly Banksy is and his life story. As time goes by Guetta, seemingly in the right place at the right time encounters someone he would never think to see, Banksy. Guetta gets a call from Fairey who notifies him that Banksy is with him. Without missing a beat, Guetta rushes over to finally get to meet the one artist who has eluded him. Guetta promises Banksy that he can do anything for Banksy as long as he can film Banksy’s work. Even though Banksy has never been filmed before while working, he accepts Guetta’s proposal. From then on Guetta developed an unlikely relationship with the mysterious graffiti artist from Britain. When Banksy begins to set up for an art gallery, he takes Guetta through the whole process. With a growing following Banksy’s work was being thrown in with the most expensive and exclusive paintings in the world. At auction, his works were being collected by top collectors that had to have a Banksy in their collection. At this moment, with Banksy growing population, he tells Guetta it’s the perfect time to put together the film. When Guetta finishes, he shows Banksy the film which was awful in Banksy eyes. Knowing that Guetta lacked in film making, Banksy orders Thierry to give him the film and sent Thierry start making his own art. Guetta sells anything he can to purchase a huge art building with the machinery, equipment, and staff to create his work. Guetta started calling himself, Mr. Brainwash. With his first project, he started a gallery to get his name out to the public. With huge risk financially, Guetta needs this to go as smoothly as possible, but he unexpectedly fractures a bone in his foot. The injury set him back, but with help of a promoter recommended by Banksy he started to get the final pieces together to get ready for the gallery. The public’s response to the new modern art gallery blew up. At the opening of the gallery 2,000 people waited eagerly. Not only that, but he sold over 1 million dollars’ worth of art in the first week. Most artists take years to perfect their craft, which happened almost overnight seemingly for Guetta. Guetta seemed to burst into the art world and he started to become a household name. At the conclusion of the documentary, Guetta is thought of as a rabbit in the art world, someone who is always hopping around place to place, but informs a reporter that he thinks of himself as a turtle and will make an impression on the art world. In the end the documentary was made to show how a Frenchman living in LA had burst onto the art scene because of the mentoring of one of the best graffiti artists ever, Banksy.
